Darling Sect emerged in the vibrant underground scene of Copenhagen in 1984. Founded by a group of friends with a shared passion for experimental music and the wild new-wave culture of the time, the band quickly became a staple in the city’s alternative music venues.
They coined the phrase “Gothic Disco” to describe their sound: An eclectic mix where the bleak worldview of post-punk and new wave met the dance floor vibes of RnB and industrial techno.
The band was known for their haunting melodies, dance-able soundscapes, and captivating live performances that incorporated theatrical elements and visual art.
Their lyrics, often exploring themes of existential angst, love, and rebellion, struck a chord with audiences seeking authenticity and depth in their music.

Darling Sect first run lasted only two years but was marked by a series of underground gigs in dimly lit clubs and abandoned houses, where they built a cult following with their commitment to artistic freedom and independence.
Despite never publishing recordings, Darling Sect was an influence on the local scene.
They inspired new bands and artists who embraced the underground ethos and contributed to Copenhagen’s reputation as a hub for innovative and boundary-pushing music.
Darling Sect’s story is a testament to the enduring power of creativity and community in shaping cultural landscapes.

The band’s reunion in 2020 marked a new chapter, as they revitalized their Gothic Disco- roots by infusing it with elements of Dark Wave. Their innovative approach brings a fresh yet nostalgic sound to both long-time fans and a new generation of listeners. With a blend of hand-played beats, synthesized sounds and haunting vocals, they are bridging the gap between their original style and today’s music trends.
A significant lineup change occurred in 2024 when original bass player Nikolay Krohg decided to leave the group. His departure marked the end of an era, but it also paves the way for new beginnings. Mads Stampe, a talented bassist with a fresh perspective, joined Darling Sect, bringing his unique style and creativity to the band. Mads’ dynamic playing and innovative approach helped to further the band’s evolution.
